St. Cloud Friends of the Library is a 501c3 organization that supports the Great River Regional Library, St. Cloud. We use volunteers to staff a bookstore located in the library, sort donations of books and other materials, stock shelves in the bookstore, and determine value of collectable, vintage, signed or other valuable books.
The St. Cloud Friends of the Public Library organization was created to help fund programs, events, and collections for the library. The team is staffed with over 70 volunteers, who dedicate their time to supporting these ever-important services and events for people in our community.
There are many ways you can help the library. You could become a volunteer; you could make a monetary donation, or donate books, CDs, movies, records, or even audiobooks to the library that are in good to excellent condition. To learn more about getting involved, click HERE now.
Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization. We support the public library to benefit the adults and children who use it. We do so through membership, fundraising, advocacy and volunteerism.
The James W. Miller Learning Resources Center opened in August of 2000. This state-of-the-art facility houses all materials and services usually found in a library, along with Learning Resources Services and Information Technology Services. The building includes hundreds of computers, a high tech auditorium, seven electronic classrooms, and sixteen student study rooms. The building was named for a donor to the university's capital campaign. Miller Center Building Hours
More than a building, this community features a game room with indoor shuffleboard, a huge theater room, outdoor grilling areas, and a fire pit where you can connect with your neighbors. Entertain friends and family in the comfortable clubhouse. Enjoy family time at one of two playgrounds. Stay active with an on-site fitness center and outdoor pool. More than 40 acres of trails and green space overlooking the Mississippi River Valley offer year-round access to Minnesotas great outdoors.
We also recommend using the Little Free Library mobile app or web map to find a Little Free Library near you. Stop by and chat with the volunteer steward of that library and ask for their advice as you get started.
First decide where you can legally and safely install the library. The location should also have a lot of foot traffic and be highly visible to anyone nearby. Then identify at least one person to be the steward (steward = caretaker). This person promotes the library and makes sure it is clean and inviting.
Register by purchasing an official charter sign. If you buy a Little Free Library from our online store, it will automatically come registered with a charter sign included. If you build your own book-sharing box, register it by purchasing a charter sign. After you register, you gain access to a network of benefits just for stewards, such as the option to set up your steward account and list your library on the Little Free Library mobile app and web map.
Get your community involved! Tell your friends, family, and neighbors in person. Use social media to engage your community. Hold a Grand Opening Ceremony and invite your neighbors to kick off the library in style with a ribbon cutting, snacks, and books freely exchanged! Contact the local paper, radio, and TV stations. Send out a press release. The more people who know about your library and support it, the better.
Zdrazil, John F. May 23, 1962 - May 28, 2021 John Fredrick Allmon Zdrazil (59) died at his home in Elbow Lake, Minnesota, Friday, May 28, 2021 surrounded by people who loved him. John was born on May 23, 1962 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN, to Jim and Linda Zdrazil, joining older brother, Tom. John Zdrazil was creative and clever, funnier than one person has the right to be, and kind beyond measure. He was tuned in to the specific beauty of wheat fields and the healing powers of Lake Superior. He loved crabby old dogs and moody teenagers and small towns and abandoned buildings. He was extraordinary. John graduated from Hopkins Eisenhower High School in 1980 and attended Bethel College in Arden Hills, MN. At both schools, he was known for his willingness to look ridiculous in the name of school spirit. He spent his college summers working at Trout Lake Camp in Pine River, MN, becoming a legend to campers and staff alike. He graduated from Bethel in 1984. In the fall of 1985, John moved to Elbow Lake where he taught English for nearly 40 years until retiring in the spring of 2021. If Mr. Zdrazil was your teacher, you learned the history of rock music in Minnesota, the value of sarcasm delivered via colored Flair pen corrections, and that your quirks were exactly what made you someone worth celebrating. John was a man of boundless talent and compassion, gifts he shared generously with the communities he cared about. In Elbow Lake, he created the annual Harvest Moon variety show, showed off his modest guitar skills even when no one asked, and volunteered at the Thorson Memorial Library. John served as a pulpit supply pastor for numerous churches in the area, organized celebrations honoring area veterans, and worked with the Grant County Humane Society to foster dogs at the end of their lives. He earned advanced degrees from Hamline University, Moorhead State, and the University of Minnesota and was a part-time funeral director and mortician. John's short story, "Winter Burial," was selected for inclusion in American Fiction Volume 13 (2014). Mr. Zdrazil was frequently chosen as Most Influential Educator by WCA graduates, including by the Class of 2021. John is survived by his father, James Zdrazil (Vernice); brother, Tom; sister-in-law, Janice Zdrazil; and niece, Hannah Zdrazil. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Zdrazil. He leaves behind an expansive community of cousins, friends, colleagues, veterans, former students, and geriatric dogs. Public visitation will be held from 12 p.m - 3:00 p.m. at Aastad Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, MN on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Lawrence Presbyterian Church in Wendell, MN. We ask that attendees follow MN state guidelines regarding masks for unvaccinated people and stay home if feeling ill. A private family burial will take place at Lake Lillian Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grant County Humane Society, Friends of the Thorson Memorial Library, the Basilica St. Vincent de Paul Shoe Ministry at St. Mary's Basilica in Minneapolis, and First Baptist Church in Minneapolis. Online memories and messages can be shared at Benson Funeral home.
