This is same for all corporate products nowadays, isn't it?You get the latest software version with the greatest new features and along the way you see your computer crashing and old projects screwed. You get latest Win/Mac OS upgrade/fix and half of your devices does not work anymore and you can not roll back. You get the latest electric car and it get tons of troubles, or gasoline car get in limp mode and you come home driving with 50km/h on the highway. You get newest camera with v1.0 firmware and freeze, stuck, restart, do not focus well and etc.We have even space missions screwed because of the mistake with conversion between inch and cm....Do not like to mention it but Boeing with their latest models which killed a lot of people.........So where is the difference and why actually you have different expectations? This is the early adopters bonus this days, sad but true!
According to the theories about the free marked, you pay for the expectations for what a product is worth, not just material and production cost and a little profit to the factory and the reseller. Sony cameras have become too popular! :-)
According to the theories of the free market, camera market is falling flat in last decade! So I can not remember theory from economy in which when your market is failing you rise the prices?!?!?!? Basically is just opposite! If you have high demand you bring prices UP, if you have low demand you set the prices DOWN! And this advocacy here, all over the place, how vendors should rise the prices is TOTAL NONSENSE. And example for pure lobbying! Second we constantly see how they are moving to the "high margin products" but mas produced 135 format cameras are much more low margin products, and top models are far away from high margin products! So second free market nonsense repeated here!Third, there was never real free market on the Japan Camera Market! Based on examples that we have like prices, models, market segmentation and etc we have well-protected oligopoly, with tons of patents and "secret" tech!So camera market is all but free market!
In general I agree with you but somehow you are missing the real point here. And the point is - this products are not essential, compared to the smartphones or petrol for example! And also salaries for photographers drops constantly. We have several reports that show photographers at the bottom of the salary range in the US! Raising the prices in situation like this is like suicide.Don't get me started on the "High tech Side" of the things. This guys are so disconnected to the real high tech world that it is really amazing how actually they survive......And in general low demand could raise the cost for production but this is not the same as raising the price! market does not really care what are your problems! You either sell or no. So because your argument is "free market" so vendors should adapt to the market no the opposite! And if you can not adapt go home! There are China companies ready to cam and buy whole business and make it working with REAL market practices.
@TRU This is not what I am advocating for! This is just your interpretation. It is not correct though. And let me tell you I want nothing from ILC vendors! But if the want to sell something to me or someone else they need to get our attention. And what I see is they are falling flat on attract people with their products!I am not buying Apple products also, but they do not really care because Apple sell to many others. But if you see your market going down 20-30% year by year and you are doing nothing but raising the prices and going for the pseudo high margin products ........... epic fail not driven by free market logic in any way.And it is clear they do not understand market, also they do not understand the customer needs. This is confirmed by sales numbers. 2b1af7f3a8
