Prone to battery degradation in hot climates (see more info on this below) 2012 Year Models Should all have the battery heater element as this was made standard from this point onwards. Anecdotal evidence tends to show that degradation is not as big of a problem in this year model, although Nissan never officially announced any changes related to heat tolerance. 2014 Year Models Some 2014's may have the same battery as 2013 models. Some 2014's actually have the "lizard" battery that Nissan claims is heat tolerant and will not degrade in hot climates. 2015 Year Models. Should all include the "lizard" battery and should be very reliable. Nissan said they would work on a new chemistry to prevent this from happening. Officially this new chemistry was used in 2015 year model Leafs. However, we've learned that many 2014 year models may have included this too. So I went back to my Droid maxx. Then the turbo came out and I waited until they released the advanced calling to make the purchase.
